I discovered i wasn't such a snob after all
Since I was a little girl I've always been taught that I had to always mind my manners, no elbows on my the table, no chewing with your mouth open and always use the proper cutlery for the proper purpose.
So basicly I grew up thinking that eating with my hands was wrong, but I never looked down on anyone else for doing it, don't get me wrong my Mom always taught me to respect other cultures.
A couple of days ago while digesting a delicious roast lamb dinner which was finished off by an incredible Peppermint Pavlova it was decided we would do a in home version of Come Dine With Me.
If you follow my blog you know that I love trying new things, especially food!!!
My experience this week is called a Boddle Fight, I'm not entirely sure where the fight part comes in but if I had to fight for that food I definitely would.
A traditional Filipino dinner was prepared by one of our fitness and food mates ( yes we don't only eat a lot) and it was incredible.
The food is served on a table covered with banana leaves and tradition calls for sitting on the floor and eating with your hands.
Resilient at first but never one to shy away from trying something new ( remember the story about the brains) we dug in and it was an amazing experience.
Apart from the flavor combinations with the coconut curry, steamed rice , grilled prawns and so much more was the thought and precision that goes into it.
You can make your own sauce with a combination of fish sauce, soya, vinegar, chillies and lemon juice - so many of my favorites.
There I was sitting on the floor eating this wonderful meal delighting in the authenticity of it all. And at that moment I realized - IT's GREAT TO EAT WITH YOUR HANDS SOMETIMES!!!
